Brian Sweeney

Brian Sweeney

Founder/Head Trainer

Brian has an extensive Army background and is rooted in the culture, camaraderie, and accountability the military affords and it comes through in his training style. Affectionately dubbed “The Warden,” Brian is known for getting the most from you physically to push you past your limits.

In addition to managing gym operations and working the gym floor Brian lends his expertise to corporate initiatives by speaking on the topics of health, nutrition, and sports performance. Additionally, Brian contributes to the technical development and product expansion of the P90X Live brand as a Beachbody Format Expert.

Brian has been featured as the talent lead in over two dozen Beachbody P90X Live videos as well as appearances in Xbox Fitness, Fitness on Demand, Beachbody on Demand, and the fitness reality show The 20’s.

Awards and recognition: 2015, 2016,& 2017 Best of Prince William (Personal Trainer); 2016 Beachbody Educator of the Year.

Jenny, better known as the Jeneral within the walls of RtB, has an extensive background in gymnastics and dance and enjoys coaching her classes with a permanent (and very genuine) smile on her face. She believes fitness should be challenging, community driven and most of all, FUN!

Dave doesn’t like to write bios and would rather be working out in the mornings and teaching classes at night. He has spearheaded the Bull Run Teens Program which has had amazing growth and shows how hard work and discipline can be taught to kids.

His background in athletics was somewhat limited before coming to Raise the Bar given his intense work schedule but is now CrossFit certified and teaching regularly while also giving his fellow athletes a run for their money in the daily workouts.

Some folks spend a good amount of time and energy trying to figure out purpose in life. Frank feels fortunate to have found his purpose in using his gifts and talents in the world of fitness and specifically through CrossFit. Sports and fitness have always been an integral part of his life. Aside from being an avid fan of sports in general, (tragically he’s a Cleveland Browns fan) he’s also a collegiate track athlete from YSU where he also was an Assistant track coach.

After moving to Virginia, Frank devoted himself to a life of Christian ministry. He got AFFA certified in 2010 and used his certification to serve communities through fitness during his spare time. He eventually found CrossFit at Bull Run in 2012, and after completing his first WOD “Whitten” he was hooked! Frank received his CF-L1 in 2014 and also his CF Kids Cert in 2015. The challenging and intense workouts, combined with a strong community atmosphere is something that motivates him. He loves inviting folks to try CrossFit and actively participates in Faith Rx every month

Jason has had experience in rowing since the mid 90’s and enjoys teaching others whenever he can. He has been involved in CrossFit since Bull Run CrossFit’s inception and is an active Level 1 CrossFit Certified Trainer. He has a broad education in Science and loves to learn new things.  His other background in IT and web development makes him a perfect candidate to assist in the online presence at Raise the Bar as Social Media & Content Manager.

Charlie started CrossFit in 2015. He was immediately hooked by the community and workouts. CrossFit has strengthened him physically and mentally, and he rarely misses a day at the box. As an older athlete, he’s particularly focused on good form and technique, and is a persistent student of both. To further his learning, he obtained his CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) and several other trainer certificates. As a coach he’s excited to share his knowledge and experience with other athletes. Charlie’s goal is to help anyone and everyone achieve their fitness goals through CrossFit, to fall in love with the BCRF community and to help them improve every day they are at the box.

Larkin has always had an interest in and been involved in sports and physical fitness.  While serving in the U.S. Navy, Larkin coached sailors who were struggling with and unable to pass their semi-annual Physical Training tests. During this time, he also participated in his first 10k race called “Can You Handle The Heat?” at Mt. Vesuvius in 2002.  His love of running continued and he has since participated in many 10ks, half marathons and marathons.  In 2013 he decided to take action on his lifelong curiosity of triathlons and participated in his first Sprint distance triathlon in Richmond, VA.  Since discovering his love for triathlons, he has completed many triathlons, including a full distance (140.6 miles) race in 2016, despite being injured just 8 weeks prior to race day when a car struck him on his bike while training.

Larkin’s driving force behind staying physically active is his family’s history of heart disease which affects the men in his family at a very young age.  While genetics may be against him, he knows maintaining a healthy lifestyle increases his chances of avoiding a health crisis.

Also, he loves to dance.

Cathy is from Dayton, OH and has reside in Northern Virginia for a little over 20 years. She has been involved in many areas of fitness over the past 10 years doing everything from boot camp, swimming, spinning, running, aerial yoga, pole fitness, barre, boxing/kick boxing and yoga; also attended training in Les Mills Body Combat. Her passion and love for fitness pushed her to attend Northern Virginia Community College to further her education in the fitness arena.

Amanda grew up in the Northern Virginia and has been involved in a variety of sports and fitness for years. She is a high school English teacher by day and a coach by night. She loves helping students and athletes reach their fullest potential and provide them with the motivation and support they need to get there. She strives to coach classes that make working out a fun and positive experience. Amanda has her group fitness certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).

Through the years Melissa has been inspired by fitness instructors and decided to become an inspiration to class goers as well.  She completed her AFAA group fitness certification in 2018.

She believes in a complete healthy lifestyle – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.  When a person is in top physical shape, they feel empowered and more effectively handle stress to get the most out of life.

A Midwest native, transplanted to Northern VA 8 years ago, Kristin began her fitness journey as a way to meet new people and get back in shape following the birth of her fourth child. After training for and running several 10k’s and 1/2 marathons, Kristin found her way to Raise the Bar after a back injury sidelined her running career. With 4 boys and a husband to care for, you never know which class you’ll find her in, but you can count on seeing her 5 days a week at the gym, killing it in R3flex. Over the years Kristin has dabbled in HIIT, bootcamp, BodyPump, Yoga, Pilates, spin and swimming. Her goal as a coach at RTB is to encourage athletes to continually push their limits and expect more of themselves than they believe they are capable of.

“Dominic has always been a competitor. Tried out every sport as a kid and has been around the fitness industry since he was 13 (mother is a PT). Fell in love with helping other achieve their fitness goals and making them feel and look their best. 

Before coming to RTB, Dominic struggled with his conditioning as he had never experienced CrossFit before. Once he got a taste, he was hooked and had been here ever since.

A native of Southern California and having served in the United States Navy, fitness has
always been part of Mo’s life. After becoming frustrated with other gyms, Mo joined
Raise the Bar/Bull Run CrossFit back in 2015 looking for something different. After one
visit, he was hooked by the tremendous sense of community the gym prides itself on
and has been a dedicated member ever since. Inspired with the desire to better himself
and others, Mo decided to further contribute to the community by becoming a R3Flex
coach in 2018 and is so grateful for the opportunity to be part of this outstanding team.

A late starter into fitness at the age of 40, Christopher started trail running and has never stopped, traveling the tri-state area for most races. A year of RTB Bootcamp followed into present Crossfit has him reaching his goal of ultra marathon running. A professional photographer for 30 years, Christopher’s photos and video grace our website with visuals triumphantly representing the dedication of all our athletes. He is the sole Photographer & Videographer at Raise the Bar and we are proud to say that a majority of all our visuals come from his lens.
